Fabrication Technologies Industries supports the T-AKE class fleet
General Dynamics/Nassco has once again selected Fabrication Technologies as its vendor of choice to provide custom fabricated marine equipment for the US Navy Sealift Command. Earlier in 2010 GD/Nassco received an $825 million contract that provides full funding for T-AKE 13 and 14, dry cargo/ammunition ships. These ships will provide logistic lift from sources of supply either in port or at sea and will transfer cargo that includes ammunition, food, fuel, repair parts, and expendable supplies and material to station ships and other naval warfare forces at sea. As a preferred supplier, Fabrication Technologies will supply custom designed life boat davits for the T-AKE class supply ships, as well as ASME pressure vessels, inboard and outboard spanwire hose saddles, various hydrostatic testing, and a multitude of fire stations.
FTI's long standing relationship with General Dynamics/Nassco is a true sentiment to why we're know as the 'metal fabricator of choice' within the defense and shipbuilding communities," stated Joey Houshar, Vice President and General Manager at Fabrication Technologies Industries. "They want a metal fabricator that is truly Committed to Fabrication Excellence."

FTI: Supporting the Department of Defense
Earlier in April FTI attended the NDIA, (National Defense Industrial Association), monthly luncheon. At capacity attendance, this particular event was held on the USS Midway museum with Rear Admiral Forrest Faison as the keynote speaker. Admiral Faison provided an update on the many challenges facing the region under the current budget constraints, and how the department of defense is relying upon small businesses to solve these issues. By encouraging innovation and new manufacturing methods, solutions for sailors and soldiers are being answered. As corporate members of the San Diego chapter of NDIA, Fabrication Technologies Industries provides manufactured based solutions to the department of defense. Continuing a long and successful history of metal manufacturing projects in shipbuilding, defense, commercial, and power/utility markets, FTI is a world class leader in metal fabrication and welding. Strengthening relationships between government, industry, and the San Diego community, Fabrication Technologies Industries is proud to be a local manufacturing partner with the DOD and is truly Committed to Fabrication Excellence.

There are 4,886 Metal Fabricators in the U.S.
Metal manufacturing has become synonymous with Commercial, Defense, and Energy Industries in the United States. Among the nearly 5,000 fabricators in America, 684 are located in California, and from those numbers there are roughly 160 companies that directly support the southern California market area. Needless to say competition is high and thus the reason to find a company with a 'Best Practice' strategy in place.
(This chart offers an overview of the above mentioned companies in relationshio to total market share).

What is a Best Practice?
A Best Practice is a process, technique, or innovative use of resources that has a proven record of success, (past performance), in providing significant improvement in cost, schedule, quality, performance, safety, environment, or other measurable factors which impact the financial health and overall health of an organization.
Making a Difference
At Fabrication Technologies Industries, Inc. (FTI), we empower the 'Best Practice' strategy and we strive to bring our Commitment to Fabrication Excellence to each and every project we undertake. This practice of continual improvement allows us to focus on eliminating all non-value added components, thereby enforcing our strengths which is delivered to our valued customers. By eliminating excess inventory, overproduction, excess motion , and underutilized people, FTI is able to overcome short lead times, boast non-existent defect ratios, and produce quality built products for the end user.
Whether its fabricating large structured steel assemblies, custom enclosures for gas turbine OEM's, or producing specialized defense components for our war fighters, FTI has a long and successful past performance history that sets us apart from any of the competition. When it comes to new projects we have the strength, the capital, and the capacity for any challenge.
